School Council

Our School Council are made up of children from across school who have shown a keen interest in listening to the thoughts of others and driving improvement through change. The School Council focuses predominantly on in-school activities and the organisation of fund raising events which often lead to the ideas of the children being realised.

School Parliament

Our School Parliament is a small group of children from across the school who work together to improve our environment and make school a better place for everyone. Each year, they create a pledge that sets out their goal, then work throughout the year to make positive changes linked to that promise. They also collaborate with School Parliaments from eight other schools, and proudly share their achievements with the Town Mayor at the Town Hall each summer.

Subject Teams

At St Elphin’s, each subject is part of a team led by both teachers and children, working together to make sure the subject is the best it can be. We look at books to check that lesson outcomes match the planned curriculum and that standards of handwriting and presentation are high. In our meetings we come up with ways to make the subject exciting e.g. competitions, themed days and quizes and we also make sure every class enjoys at least one out-of-school experience to enhance their learning. We have to apply for the role of subject leader and explain why we are passionate about the subject and what qualities we think we have that would make a good leader. Find out more by visiting our ‘Curriculum’ team pages!
